| The Territory |
The town of Vinci is located in the heart of Tuscany. It is rich in history and culture. In addition to the characteristic village, tourists may also visit the birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci in the suburb of Anchiano. The Leonardian Museum is located precisely in Vinci, as well as Guidi Place, which was redesigned by artist Mimmo Paladino. Visitors are seduced by Leonardo’s genius, as they admire the faithful reconstructions of his machines and drawings, recognising him as an artist, scientist, inventor and designer. Vinci, however, is not “only” art, science and culture. It is also a territory. The town is surrounded by splendid hills, covered with orderly vineyards and olive groves.
The "Cantine Leonardo da Vinci" wine cellar, created by an association of thirty winegrowers, was founded precisely with this backdrop in 1961.
The first harvest took place in 1965 and the wine cellar was limited to the simple transformation and sale of unbottled wine during its initial years of activity. The direct sale of two bottled products began only in 1971: Chianti Leonardo and Collebello. The number of wines offered was later increased. Today, Cantine Leonardo da Vinci is a cooperative at the vanguard of the industry, which nevertheless respects the territory. In 2002 the “dalleVigne” company was founded, which distributes Tuscan, Italian and international wines. Wine is an all-round protagonist of the territory: for the Cantine Leonardo da Vinci this means not only production and distribution, but also direct sales.
In fact, the company’s oenological tourist structure, the dalleVigne Wine Loft, wine shop, restaurant and wine bar, was created in 2005 after remodelling an agricultural annex on the hill overlooking the wine cellar.
